it’s liberation time
Let your hair out. Freedom is on the way.
Two years ago, I read an author’s definition of freedom and it forever changed the way I internalized the word. To paraphrase: “Freedom is not doing what you want to do - freedom is doing what you should do.” In other words, being in service to others rather than to self is true freedom. And what is also needed to achieve freedom is truth. The author points out that Jesus Christ binds freedom and truth together, teaching and preaching that “the truth shall set you free”. The world is in a state of massive confusion. Lies are presented as truth and truth is being suppressed.
When the world was shutdown because of COVID and we were forced to witness the brutal slaying of George Floyd, it became clear that we were in a spiritual war. There was a revealing that took place of once-admired people and things and events, that has caused an awakening of dormant minds, hearts, and spirits. Our people have experienced so much oppression and struggle and like our brother George, we are stifled to the point of numbness. Our pain often leaves us fearful and unable to stand up for truth or seek justice.
During this time of spiritual shaking, I was reminded of the Haitian Revolution where slaves in Haiti successfully revolted against French oppressors. Many people wondered what motivated the Haitians to pull off this fight for liberation, lacking in the physical resources that their opposition possessed. I always believed that it was their untethered connection to the Most High God that allowed this victory. They were able to get to the truth of who they were - God’s chosen people. They no longer looked to human oppressors for their freedom. They found the truth and it set them free. Regardless of worldly outcomes, our touchdown on justice draws near. Liberation is here. ■
