fairytales from the hood

Finding a forest in a concrete jungle.

I’ve always been somewhat indifferent when it came to fairytales because I never understood the idea of animating something that could be found in real life.

Living in a big city has its perks - a great culture mix, better employment opportunities, and a lively social atmosphere. On the other hand, it has its limitations. Everything is cramped and everyone is moving and shaking in all directions. There is so much emphasis on working and making money that slowing down just enough to catch your breath seems an impossible task. But every now and again when life’s load gets heavy, taking some time to reconnect with sky and earth seems the remedy.

As buildings continue to grow taller each day and concrete structures are erected on what used to be vacant green spaces, discovering natural beauty beyond the four walls of a tiny city apartment helps to center the soul, heart, and mind. There are no fairy godmothers needed or little rodent friends to help you get dolled up. Your chariot to a secret garden somewhere in the middle of a metropolis awaits - though it won’t be in a pumpkin, it is always a train ride away. ■
